Get to know Solomon a little better through the interview below:

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I live in the small quiet town of Springs, and I love being outdoors. I have a keen interest in general knowledge and current affairs; hence, I was captain of my school’s Quiz Team in Grade 7.

What is it like to work at Datamine Africa?

Every day is different as there are typically multiple activities to pursue at once. One moment you can be working in a multi-disciplinary team, pitching to a new client or you can be working alone doing everything from planning your business trip to reconciling your expenses!

What inspired your career in this industry?

I have always enjoyed nature, especially the earth sciences. I grew up in Mazowe, a farming and mining village in Zimbabwe.

What are some of the challenges you help your clients navigate during consulting sessions? / What are some of the challenges in your role?

I assist my clients to understand how geological modelling and mapping is done and how to use photogrammetry to capture and analyse geotechnical data.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your role / the work you do?

Teaching other geologists like me on how to use software as a tool for doing their work more efficiently.

What are your best memories from your career?

Travelling to different parts of the continent. My highlights were visiting the pyramids of Giza and flying over Mount Kilimanjaro!

Tell us a fun fact about you?

I am a keen cyclist but don’t own a bike! I used to cycle daily to work, 15 years ago!
